Trump announces deal for ‘permanent control’ in Greenland

President Trump announced Friday that the United States has reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland for “permanent control over security” in Greenland. The agreement guarantees the U.S. military permanent access, basing and overflight rights. The deal will also bar China, Russia and other non-NATO countries from having bases or troops in Greenland. The agreement is expected to be signed by all three parties next week at the United Nations General Assembly. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen confirmed the agreement in a joint statement.
