“We’re tired of it”: Judge West cites recent violence in sentencing teen robber

JEFFERSON COUNTY — The outbreak of violence at Rogers Park and other gun crimes in the city and community were cited today by Judge Raquel West and a prosecutor in the sentencing of a teenage suspect accused of using a gun to terrorize and rob a convenience store clerk. 252nd Criminal District Court Judge Raquel West sentenced Caden Fontenette, 18, of Port Arthur, to 25 years in prison for Aggravated Robbery in the October 10, 2025 holdup of a clerk at the Bulldog Convenience Store on Twin City Highway at Helena in Nederland. He must serve at least half of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole because he used a deadly weapon in the commission of the crime. Two juveniles are also charged with the crime. When the judge announced her sentence, there was an outburst in the back of the courtroom after a family member reacted to the sentence. Bailiffs quickly moved to the area and the family members left the courtroom.
